Mrs. Krista Buffaloe was born and raised in Austin, Texas, and is a proud graduate of the University of Texas—Hook ‘Em Horns! Eleven years ago, she moved to Sarasota with her husband, Justin, to start a new chapter in their lives. Married for 14 years, Krista has been teaching for 18 years and has worked with 1st grade, 4th grade, and Kindergarten students, with Kindergarten holding a special place in her heart. She loves watching her students’ eyes light up when they discover they can read and takes joy in encouraging them to take chances, make mistakes, and ask countless questions. Teaching is Krista’s passion, and she cherishes every student she has the privilege to teach.

When she’s not in the classroom, Krista enjoys spending time with her family, which includes their 4-year-old rescue dog, Lillie. She can often be found listening to live music, boating, golfing, and trying out new restaurants in Sarasota. Her daughter, Emma, is a 6th grader at SSAS Middle School, and Justin is busy selling homes throughout the Sarasota area. Krista considers it a true treat to teach at such a wonderful school in a community she loves.

Michael Distler

Born in Massachusetts, Michael grew up in Boca Raton in South Florida. Throughout his childhood he enjoyed boating, fishing, wakeboarding, skiing, camping, truly any and all time spent outside. His early interests in sporting activities and the outdoors ignited Michael’s desire to travel personally. His appreciation for new, hands-on experiences and life-changing memories made while traveling spawned his dedication to help others experience all the world has to offer.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Florida State University in 2005 and immediately set his sights on experiencing – and sharing – the wonders of the world. With a focus on gaining experience overseas, he lived and studied abroad in Switzerland while completing a second Bachelor of Science Degree in Hospitality Administration in 2006.

Ever since Michael has committed his career to fulfilling each client’s ultimate travel dreams. He gained industry expertise as a luxury travel advisor while working within the esteemed Virtuoso network for more than 15 years.

Michael has been featured in Luxury Travel Advisor, Travel Agent Magazine and other leading industry publications for his specialization in luxury safari travel planning, it’s his clients’ continued trust, boundless five-star reviews and high remarks that he values most.

Inspired by a passion to help clients define their own “Avontuur” and bring extraordinary plans to life, Michael launched Avontuur Travel International, Inc, in 2021.
